Director of Adopt-a-School
“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.”
The Zeta Adopt-A-School program is an initiative to create a school and community partnership that will positively impact student achievement, attendance, and the availability of role models for students of color. The program constitutes a year-long, mutually beneficial partnership that provides schools with resources, support and structure. Activities are designed to support learning objectives, and each partnership is developed jointly by members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorproated, and their adopted school.
The Founders of Zeta Phi Beta all saw education as a way to better themselves and their communities.
Four of the five Founders majored in education and taught in secondary and higher education institutions. Pearl Anna Neal taught music in the North Carolina public schools. At the Teachers College in Winston Salem, NC, she served as a director of seniors majoring in music. Myrtle Tyler Faithful became a high school math and English teacher, and Viola Tyler Goings, a mathematics major, taught in Ohio for many years. Fannie Pettie Watts taught junior and senior high school art in Savannah, GA. This rich history of educators within Zeta Phi Beta led our organization to partner with schools as part of our national programs.

We invite all chapters to participate in Adopt-A-School in your respective areas to help change students’ lives and the community where you reside. Your involvement in this aspect of community service would be an invaluable contribution to education.
